Sylvia Demarest on "Why We Need to Talk about Julian Assange"

We will have a special guest at our monthly
Human Rights & Justice Committee Meeting:
Sylvia Demarest on "Why We Need to Talk about Julian Assange"

Thursday, February 13th, 6:00 – 7:00 PM
La Madeleine French Bakery & Café
3072 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas

Attorney Sylvia Demarest will be leading a discussion about the founder of WikiLeaks. Julian Assange is locked up in London in solitary confinement facing extradition to the U.S. If extradited, he will be charged under the Espionage Act for publishing information that exposed US war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. If convicted, he would face the death penalty.  Chelsea Manning, who courageously blew the whistle on US atrocities in Iraq by giving information to WikiLeaks, endured seven years of torture in a military prison was jailed again for refusing to testify against Assange.

Is Assange a journalist, a whistleblower, and a prisoner of conscience or is he a traitor, as the US government claims?  Why does any of this matter to us? Please plan on attending the meeting and joining in the discussion.
