Angela (Angee) Andrade

Peacemaker of the Year:
Angelica Andrade

Angelica Andrade is a Community Organizer and Outreach Coordinator who builds and maintains relationships and advocates for the welfare of all.  She is skilled in nonprofit organizations, political campaigns, lobbying, public speaking, interpersonal skills and management.

She had a challenging childhood, with little money and raising six kids while being a kid herself, due to her parents’ incarceration. Becoming a teen-mom at the age of 17, Angelica learned to become resourceful and, despite sometimes being homeless, became the first in her family to get a high school degree.  She jumped at the chance to work as a cashier at a Mexican restaurant, gave it her all, and worked her way up to Assistant Manager. Along the way, she learned a lot about “the system” designed to hold people back.

Angelica earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from Mountain View College and studied Mass Communications in Broadcast Journalism at Richland College, and before she even realized it, found herself  becoming a student leader and activist. It was during this time that her father was deported. She had not even known he was undocumented, a “dreamer.” The trauma of loss due to both mass incarceration and mass deportation catapulted her into the movement against systematic racism and oppression, and for equity in all forms.

As an activist, Angelica is a community organizer for the North Texas Dream Team, having served as Vice President.  NTDT is an immigrant-youth-led non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the dreams and goals of students, and to educate and raise awareness about DACA and the plight of Dreamers, and to serve the needs of people in the community, regardless of race or ethnicity.  She’s also served as President of LULAC #5215 and as the NTDT Representative for a former DPJC recipient of the “Justice Seeking Organization of the Year,”  Force for Immigrants Rights & Empowerment – F.I.R.E.

Wherever immigrant communities are experiencing injustices, Angelica is there! She is well-known for speaking truth to power, her compassion and love for people, and her relentless passion for justice and liberation for all.  We are honored to claim her a member of the DPJC Executive Board and our 2020 “Justice-Seeker of the Year”!
